THE VALUE OF A GENERAL CONTRACTOR

We are involved in bringing a big residential complex with some structural problems back from the edge. And, of course, there are some people who want to hire the cheapest person possible. It makes me think how often cheap construction costs more after the years go by.
In New Zealand -- unlike here in the States -- a general contractor is a profession with years of specific training and testing, not unlike an architect or an engineer. I've done local projects with New Zealander Jason Golaboski for years now, and he is a testament to the quality of that Kiwi training. (See him looking thoughtful in snap at left.)
I wish more people had his training and temperament: his calm and resourceful management consistently saves time and money where a less trained contractor wouldn’t.
